I remember Don during high school days and was glad when our paths crossed many years later when we both were in education at Nimitz High School in Irving. Don was an awesome teacher. The students loved being a part of his class. He made learning very interesting and the kids shared much about his class. He was extremely dedicated to his students and Nimitz High School. He will be remembered and missed by all. Rest In Peace Don.
Don, Rod Green, Jim Crook, Betty Girlinghouse, Diane Kinnamon, and myself all lived on Betsy Lane. Don, Jim, and I walked to Paul Keyes together in first grade. Don's mom was a our den mother in Cub Scouts. Don's father was nice quiet man. But not Mrs. Killian she wanted the best for her boy. Don had a hugh library. His mom had him always studying new things. Don & I had something in common though and it wasnt books.
We were both adopted. Man we both hit the lotto! Both of us were unconditionally loved by people that chose us! Don taught school and lived in the same house his entire life. I talked to Don after he had a stroke on the phone. We talked about our folks (who were all gone by then). About Cub Scouts. And about the time I got him to jump off the roof. Don's mom always got her boy the latest greatest stuff. Remember superman on TV in the 50's. Yep she went to Lemon's and got him a Superman outfit (cap, leotards and all). Don was always big when we were in elementary). So I told him I thought he got the real Superman outfit by mistake. I said run across the yard and jump. He did and I said man you really took off. I bet you can fly. Little did I know how big of mistake that was to encourage him. I went home. My mom gets a call from Mrs. Killian saying Don jumped off the roof because Rex told him he had the real Superman outfit. Well of course you know I got in huge trouble.
When I talked to Don after his stroke I apologized again and we laughed,
I believe he's really flying now and doesn't need that outfit to do it.
God bless you my friend. You are Superman to me. I'll be seeing you.
