Brooks Harkey
Fair Winds and Following Seas, my 4th grade sweetheart. I will always remember how we sat and talked forever at the 20th reunion and how I hoped you would make it to the 50th. R.I.P.Stephen English
Brooks Harkey called Jeri his fourth-grade sweetheart. By the sixth grade, she was the sweetheart of Central Elementary. In the sixth grade, Jeri sat immediately to my left. Whenever the teacher would say, “Pick a partner for some exercise,” several boys would jump up and try to reach her desk, but her right hand would shoot out like a Bruce Lee move, grab my left arm, and she would declare, “You are my partner!” We were partners on every single project that the teacher called for them. That even included the winter recesses in the old gym where they tried to teach us to dance. I think she saw me as the safest choice. Jeri was a beautiful soul, and I pray that she found the peace she so deserved.
