Joe Shaw, Class of 1968, posted this on Facebook:

At 7:10, Thursday, 11/12/09, my dear friend, Grady Jones, passed away peacefully in his sleep from complications of prostate cancer. He was a dear, sweet, gentle soul, who held only love for everyone. He was surrounded by his children and their friends and two of his oldest childhood friends. At his request, no funeral service is planned. Details will follow.

UPDATE from Joe on Friday, 11/13/09:

I just got off the phone with Grady III. The family would like to suggest anyone who would like to make a donation in Grady's memory do so to Susan G Komen For The Cure. The family has supported this organization for years.

Grady's wish was to be cremated, and there will be no funeral service. However, Grady III has given us an ok to plan a small get together for his classmates, probably something like a dinner or a Sunday brunch. I am going to get with Marlene Nichols Steward (Class of 1968) and we will figure something out. Again, we will discuss everything with the kids and details will follow as they become known.

If you're on Facebook, you can go to Grady Jones' page & post thoughts & memories. His family has expressed how comforting it is to read comments posted from his friends. There are also several photo albums that Grady put together & posted.

Grady was able to attend our Reunion in June. He was an original & brought warmth & laughter to many people. RIP, Grady!

I don't know how many of you knew Grady Jones (IHS '68); he attended our reunion because he had so many friends there.  But, just in case you don't know, Grady passed away last Thursday evening due to cancer.  A memorial is being held for him this coming Sunday, Nov 22, from 2 to 4 at the Irving Masonic Lodge.  If you come, Joe Shaw says to bring your favorite Grady story.
